SPICE OF WILDLIFE

Cochin/Periyar/Kumarakom/Alleppey/Cochin
(4 nights/5 days)

Day 1: Cochin - Periyar
Upon arrival at Cochin, you are transfered to Periyar by road (185 kms, approx.5 hours). Check in at Cardamom County or similar. Overnight at the resort.

Day 2: Periyar
Early morning (0630 hours) game viewing in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary by boat. Cruise on the Periyar Lake to view the wildlife, which, often converges on the banks of this lake as it is the only water source in the region. The wildlife includes wild elephants, Indian gaur, monkeys, spotted deer, barking deer, wild boar and birds of myriad varieties. Encompassing an area of 777 sq kms, the wildlife sanctuary lies at an elevation of between 914 meters and 1828 meters above sea level on the Periyar Lake in the hills of Western Ghats. Return for breakfast at the resort. After breakfast visit the Spice Plantation and the spice market. The rest of the day is for you to explore Periyar/Thekkady on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Periyar-Kumarakon-Alleppey
Enjoy breakfast at the resort. Then drive to Kumarakom (140 kms, approx 4 hours). Kumarakom slumbers on the banks of the famous Vembanad Lake, which is a part of Kuttanad ('granary' of Kerala). The Vembanad Lake with its majestic canals, streams and distributaries along its banks weave an intricate and enchantingly beautiful web. The gorgeous green of the fringed palms ripple in the blue waters and blend into wavelets. Upon arrival, embark on an airconditioned Deluxe House Boat and float through the Vembanadu Lake and its canals. (Airconditioner switched on from 9 pm till 6 am.). Enjoy lunch, and dinner on board the house boat. Overnight at on board.

Day 4: Alleppey - Cochin
Breakfast on board the house boat. You are then transferred to Cochin (65 kms, approx 1.5 hours). Check in at the Hotel Abad Atrium or similar. Enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing in Cochin, including a visit to the St. Francis Church, Chinese Fishing Net, Dutch Palace (Closed on Fridays), Jewish Synagogue (closed on Fri & Sat). Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Depart Cochin
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. You are then transferred to the airport/railway station in time to connect your onward destination.
