Pantheism was apparently the religion of the early Vedic people. But its seeds seem to have been sown into the consciousness of the brave hearted men and women of today. If you equate your holiday with adrenalin and adventure this is what you need. To qualify ask yourself if you would like to encounter the mystique and the might of the River Ganges. The Ganga comes rushing down from the mountains, passing through Kaudiyala and Shivpuri before it reaches Rishikesh. Here it slows down, before bursting into white water rapids. Rishikesh has a number of rapids with telling names - Roller Coaster, Three Blind Mice, Daniels Dip and Black Money. All these make this area a favourite with rafters. For the millions of Hindus who revere the Ganga, going to Haridwar is the fulfillment of a life's ambition. Here, it is believed Vishnu left his footprint on a rock at Har-ki-Pauri.The city's sights and sounds change with each passing hour. At daybreak people make offerings of milk to the river at Triveni Ghat. Tourists, mourners and pilgrims bathe to the sound of the temple bells. At twilight, as the evening aarti is performed , hundreds of diyas float down the dark river along with marigolds.

The Ganga , the Hindus believe was sent down by Lord Shiva from his locks. Rafting down its waters of wisdom can be more enlightening than what you bargain for- its sheer majesty can be confounding to some. But confronting it can be the experience of a lifetime. For another taste of nature worship with an edge try rafting/kayaking down the rapids of the Kali Gandaki river in Nepal. Throw in a bit of game viewing at the Chitwan National Park, some sightseeing around the ancient and charming Kathmandu valley and you have the ingredients for a memorable holiday. One that will surely satisfy your appetite for life.
