Golf
has been played in India for decades now. The country boasts of
some of the best golfing ranges in the subcontinent and for a golf
enthusiast it would be sacrilege to pass this tour over. The tour
is specifically designed to provide ample opportunities for sightseeing
while giving you the chance to play at the country's best courses.
These courses may not really compare with the professional courses
existing outside India but the experience of playing amidst Mughal
ruins in Delhi and more than 100 years of history in Mumbai and
Calcutta is unparalleled.
Amidst
Mumbai's cosmopolitan splendour is nestled the prestigious Willingdon
Sports Club and the Presidency Golf Club. You can drive every instinct
home as you party and hone your skills at the golf course.
Sport
mixes with plearure as you pay a visit to the "Pink City"
- Jaipur which is also part of the itinerary and is an opportunity
to see a glimpse of historical Rajasthan. You can also visit the
fabled cities of Fatehpur Sikri and Agra. In Agra you can wonder
at the Taj Mahal's magical grandeur. An expression of everlasting
love edified in stone, its beauty can only be experienced.
You
can explore both Old and New Delhi and enjoy a game at the sprawling
Delhi Golf Club where you negotiate the greens through a maze of
Mughal monuments. A visit to the Classic Golf Resort gives you an
opportunity to really test your skills as this is a true pro course.
In
Kolkata the Royal Calcutta Golf Course is the oldest in the world,
outside of scottland, and playing here is a rare privilege. The
Tollygunj Club also is the city's laidback charm and the Raj hangover
are most apparent in its club culture and this is all epitomized
by the "Tolly" as the locals call it.
The
Golf section (browns) at Madras Gymkhana Club, Chennai is also more
than a century old and has a very nostalgic air about it. A visit
to a nearby town of Mahabalipuram will transport you back into time,
as you witness the spectacle of the world famous rock cut monoliths,
a hallmark of the Pallava dynasty of 07th century AD.
