The Nilgiri hills are home to some of our lushest forests, teeming with spectacular flora and fauna. The greenery is only broken by the white streams and the tumbling waterfalls that dot the countryside. Southwest of the Deccan Plateau, separated from Kerela by the blue Nilgiris lies the Coimbatore plateau. It has the cloud covered Palni Hills and is home to beautiful plantations. The misty skies and the moist earth are perfect for growing tea, coffee and spices. Munnar, the region's most popular hill station, is situated at the confluence of the three streams - the Mudrapuzha, the Nallathani and the Kundala. So perfect is it in its climatic and scenic beauty that the erstwhile British Raj of Southern India adopted it as their official summer escape!
The steep terrain with its numerous rivulets make the region ideal for trekking. For the less adventurous, pottering around the quaint little towns is an amply better option. The fresh mountain air can restore even the most worn out and jaded souls!
